Fulana



Fulana is the Argentinian brand name of these shoes for women that I admired in the milonga on Saturday. Of those currently on the webstore, I think she bought the prettiest colours!

Fulana is apparently a way of referring to a woman without saying their name.  

The RAE (widely used Spanish - dictionary, see links, right) says:



A local friend said the word is rarely used today.  He was doubtful as to its "cariñosa connotation".  As below, he too mentions fulanita but makes the point that it is "depersonalising". 

Still, fun for a brand of shoes.

Según el docente Charlie López, Fulano deriva de "fulan" que se traduce como "persona cualquiera", Mengano proviene de "man kan" que significa "quien sea" y Zutano viene del latín scitanus, que equivale a "sabido".

La frase también se adaptó al femenino. En caso de querer mencionar mujeres a modo de ejemplo o sin decir su nombre, se utiliza el término "Fulana, Mengana y Zutana". Del mismo modo, puede emplearse con el diminutivo "Fulanito, Menganita y Zutanito".
